Peed’s field goal in second OT lifts Holy Cross
By Brian Lazare Game played Thursday, November 2, 2000 Thomas Peed kicked an 18-yard field goal in the second overtime to give Holy Crss a 48-45 victory against Jesuit in a District 10-5A game Thursday night at Tad Gormley Stadium. Two runs by quarterback Daniel Moore moved the ball to the Jesuit 1. Peed then kicked the field goal on third down. Each team scored quickly in the first overtime. Chris Dupuy put the Tigers ahead with a 10-yard touchdown run on first down. Jesuit scored on its second play – a 7-yard pass from Perrin Rittner to Phillip Barré. The Blue Jays’ possession in the second overtime ended when Ryan Willis intercepted a Rittner pass. Holy Cross (7-3, 3-3) sent the game into overtime on a 5-yard touchdown pass from Moore to Jerome Landry with 36 seconds remaining. Peed’s extra point tied the score at 38. The Tigers drove 58 yards for the tying touchdown after Nick Frank blocked Sparky Martin’s punt. Jesuit (5-5, 2-4) overcame a 31-17 deficit with three touchdowns in a 34-second span of the third quarter. Rittner threw a 72-yard touchdown to Brett Gaudet for the first touchdown. Then the Blue Jays scored two defensive touchdowns – a 20-yard fumble return by Woody Reilly and a 31-yard interception return by Quinton Jason.
