Scrapy Jesuit tops Holy Cross Game played Saturday, November 6, 1999 From staff reports Jesuit’s season finale Saturday against Holy Cross didn’t offer the Blue Jays an opportunity to make the playoffs. But it was a chance to earn redemption. And that’s exactly what Jesuit did. The Blue Jay used big plays to upset the Tigers, 31-21, in a District 10-5A game at Tad Gormley Stadium. It was the 77th game between the Catholic League rivals. Perrin Rittner completed 14 of 23 passes for 272 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Blue Jays (3-6, 1-5). Rittner’s 48-yard touchdown pass to Nathan Bolton gave Jesuit a 24-7 lead with 9:17 remaining in the fourth quarter. “I had a lot of confidence,” Rittner said. “The offensive line did a great job and gave me a lot of time to throw.” Holy Cross (0-4. 3-3) will learn its postseason fate today when the wild card berths are announced. Jesuit’s Brett Gaudet caught 10 passes for 103 yards, including a 76-yard scoring pass form Rittner that gave the Blue Jays a 14-0 lead with 7:58 remaining in the second quarter. The pass came three plays after Gary Bordelon intercepted the Tigers John Wattigny in the end zone. Jesuit coach Jay Pittman was pleased with a happy ending to an otherwise disappointing season. “The best thing would be for us to be playing next week (in the playoffs) as Holy Cross has go t hat advantage over us.” Pittman said, “But it’s always good to win. Plus Holy Cross and it’s a rivalry.” Wattigny completed 17 of 36 passes for 224 yards and three touchdowns.
