Jays run over Tigers, 42-0
By John Reed, Staff Writer Jesuit running back Brant Hocke ran behind a dominating ofensive line Saturday night. He scored three touchdowns and gained 132 yards on 18 carries to help Jesuit rout Hoy Cross, 42-0, at Tad Gormley Stadium. The victory kept Jesuit (4-2, 2-0) in a first-place tie with Shaw, which beat Rummel on Saturday, in the district 10-5A race. Hocke scored Jesuit's first two touchdowns on rruns of four and three yards in the first half. He had 66 yards rushing at the half. In the thrid quarter, Hocke sprinted through a large hole and went 66 yards, outrunning Holy Cross' secondary, for a touchdown that put the Blue Jays ahead, 35-0. Hocke played one series in the second half. Jesuit scored three times in their first four possessions, which included a 41-yard pass from Lance Hecker to wide receiver Kevin Murray that ended a 71-yar, seven-play drive. The Blue Jays went 65 yards on 10 plays to score on their first possession.On the second, they scored by going 57 yards on nine plays. Stephen Detrinis' fumble recovery on the Holy Cross 30 set up Benton Marino's 1-yard touchdown run that put Jesuit ahead 28-0 with 9:28 left in the third. "I'm very happy with all three sides we played (offense, defense and special teams)," Jesuit coach Mark Songy, whose team plays St. Augustine this week. "It's stillearly, but we want to keep it rolling." Holy Cross (2-4, 0-3) was held to 29 yards rushing. The Tigers' offensive line allowed four sacks. Holy Cross was held to 21 yards rushing in th efirst half. The longest Tigers' drive in the half ended on their 41. Jesuit rushed for 274 yards, and Hecker completed five of six passes for 70 yards.
