Blue Jays defeat Tigers 56-14
On Friday night, October 10, 2014 the Jesuit Blue Jays surprised every one of the 13,500 in attendance by coasting to an easy victory against the Holy Cross Tigers, taking back the Golden Football trophy, which Holy Cross had captured a year earlier. The surprise wasn’t that the Jays won, as nearly all observers had expected the victory, but it was how they dominated the entire game, denying Holy Cross any measure of respect until the second and third team boys were on the field for Jesuit in the second half.
This game will no doubt give the Tiger players of 2015 a strong motivation to perform at their very best, while Jesuit will have graduated most of their current year’s first team athletes. But for now, suffice to say that the entire Jesuit crowd will take adequate time to savor this year’s victory.
This was the 95th meeting of the two determined rivals, dating back 93 years to 1922. Jesuit holds a decided edge with 55 wins against 38 losses and one tie. (The 1937 game was declared “no contest.”)
